Quantitative research service

See how a defined strategy would have behaved historically.

RavenInvestor translates explicit strategy rules into a documented historical simulation, then separates the measured result from its interpretation and limitations.

What the service evaluates

Custom backtesting examines a strategy specification against a defined historical dataset. The purpose is to answer a conditional question: how would these exact rules have behaved in this market, during this period, under these stated assumptions?

The result describes the simulation. It does not establish what would have happened with different execution conditions, and it does not predict that the same behavior will occur in the future.

Information needed to define the test

  • Market: asset, symbol, venue or data source when relevant.
  • Period: requested start and end dates.
  • Timeframe: candle or observation interval used by the rules.
  • Entry and exit rules: objective conditions that can be evaluated from data.
  • Capital model: starting capital, position size and reinvestment rules.
  • Costs: fees, spread or slippage assumptions when applicable.
  • Risk rules: stops, targets, exposure limits or other defined controls.
  • Comparison: a benchmark such as buy and hold, when appropriate and sufficiently defined.

Rules such as “buy when the market looks strong” are not directly testable until “strong” is converted into an explicit, reproducible condition.

What the report may include

Test specification

Rules, parameters, dataset, timeframe, sample dates and assumptions used.

Historical results

Performance path and relevant return, drawdown, operation and cost summaries supported by the test.

Benchmark comparison

A like-for-like comparison when the requested benchmark and capital treatment can be defined fairly.

Interpretation and limits

Observed findings, data gaps, implementation risks and the conditions the result does not cover.

The final contents depend on the strategy and available data. A metric is omitted when it cannot be supported rather than estimated without disclosure.

How the engagement works

1. DefineYou submit the rules, market, timeframe, period and assumptions.
2. ScopeRavenInvestor checks whether the rules are testable and identifies missing decisions or data.
3. TestThe agreed specification is evaluated without changing the rules to improve the reported outcome.
4. ReportYou receive the documented result, interpretation, limitations and relevant visual evidence.

Research safeguards

The test should use only information that would have been available at each simulated decision. Assumptions about costs, data gaps, order execution and incomplete periods must be made explicit. When the scope allows, separating development data from later evaluation data can help show whether a result depends too heavily on the sample used to design it.

Repeatedly changing parameters until a historical result looks attractive can produce a fragile specification. RavenInvestor therefore reports the agreed rules and treats sensitivity to assumptions as a limitation rather than as evidence of future performance.

What this service does not provide

  • No promise of profit or future performance.
  • No personalized recommendation to buy, sell or hold an asset.
  • No execution of trades, custody of assets or management of client funds.
  • No request for exchange passwords, private keys or trading API secrets.
  • No claim that a simulation reproduces every real-world execution condition.

A request does not create an advisory, fiduciary, client or confidential relationship. Project scope and availability must be confirmed separately.

Important limitation

Backtesting is a historical scenario analysis. Results depend on data quality, rules, assumptions, costs and the selected sample. Historical performance and similarity do not guarantee the same future outcome. This service provides general quantitative research, not personalized financial, investment, trading, legal or tax advice.
